Uses:
The leaf decoction is taken to reduce fevers and remedy colds, pneumonia, influenza and other pulmonary disorders. In relieving colds, Bay Leaves are sometimes used in baths. It is also taken in cases of stroke. It is used to dispel flatulence. This herb has been used by women to regulate the menstrual cycle. Some persons use it to remedy urinary disorders. Bay Leaves are used in treating oral disorders and gum ailments. Parched leaves are sometimes rubbed on skin irritations to provide relief. The oil from the leaves is the main ingredient in Bay Rum, a reviving skin lotion. Bay Rum is used externally in cases of nausea, fainting and fever.
History/ Tradition:
The oil of Bayberry will bring prosperity and luck. The dried leaves of this herb are one of oldest herbs used in cookery. It is believed that the oil of the Bay Leaf will bring prosperity and luck.
Benefits:
This herb is useful in controlling fevers, colds and pneumonia. It can benefit persons who have suffered from a stroke. Bay Leaves help to treat urinary disorders providing relief for persons experiencing this malady. It is useful in relieving gum ailments and flatulence. For persons whose skin has been irritated by insect bites or other causes, using Bay Leaves can bring relief. Bayberry, taken in small doses, increases the vitality of your total body systems, improving circulation. It can also be used as a poultice over varicose veins to strengthen the blood vessels. A douche made of the tea is used for vaginal infections. Tea made of Bayberry is a good gargle for sore throat and tonsillitis.
