Uses:
The decoction of Clary is a remedy for kidney stones, dysentery and abdominal troubles. It is useful in treating certain respiratory ailments, such as, bronchitis, asthma, colds and coughs. The flowers are made into a tea and used to remove mucus from the throat and lungs and gargled to relieve sore throat. It is also used for stomach problems. The leaves and flowers are made into a tea to treat malaria. Women drink the tea, unsweetened and warm, for painful periods or scanty flow. Crushed leaves are applied on female genital organs to induce menstrual flow and aid delivery. They are also put on boils and abscesses to ripen them. The juice from the leaves is used to stop internal hemorrhages. Externally, it is used as a bath for aching muscles, eczema and other skin conditions. The seed paste is used to destroy warts. In Jamaica, the decoction is used as an eye-wash.
